About Ironwood
Nestled on a rural farm with nearly 400 acres of beautiful scenery lies Ironwood, an independent residential treatment center and private school for young adults ages 13 to 18 struggling with addiction and mental health conditions. Ironwood serves up to 45 young adults in a residential program that typically lasts 9 to 12 months. Ironwood uses a step down approach when treating addiction and behavioral health. Clients will move through 4 different levels of structure. “Levels 1 and 2 are highly structured, rule oriented environments, intended to establish acceptance and reinforce respect for one's self and others. The Farm House (levels 3 and 4) focuses more on developing the internal character traits of honesty, integrity, and motivational values. Both aspects of the program consistently use routines that encourage residents to become more self-directed, responsible, and emotionally mature, ultimately working toward the successful employment of Ironwood's mission.” “In the afternoon, a multitude of activities are offered such as equestrian lessons, dog training, art, music, cooking lessons, horticulture, hiking, life skills training, team-building exercises, one-on-one tutoring, individual or family therapy, equine-assisted psychotherapy, dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT) group, substance abuse group, young women's group, nutrition group and visits from guest mentors. Dinner preparation begins at 4:30 p.m., and after dinner teens participate in clean-up and evening farmhouse and barn chores. In the evenings, students may sometimes choose how to spend their free time. Quiet time begins at 8:00 p.m. as students take showers, read, write letters and journal, followed by bedtime at 9:00 p.m.” Family involvement is an important part of the healing process, and Ironwood incorporates family counseling into the program as well as family stays and visits.
The beautiful campus is truly a sanctuary for young adults to learn and heal. Farm animals, horses, cats, and dogs adorn the facility along with comfortable accommodations and a compassionate staff. With numerous positive reviews, Ironwood is a great choice for those looking for long-term residential care with a fully accredited accredited school on-site.
