About Higher Ground Drug Rehabilitation Trust
Higher Ground provides an 18-week residential program for those struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. This program is available to New Zealand residents only. Higher Ground aims to assist the client's social and psychological well-being to maintain long-term sobriety. They achieve this through the use of 12-Step facilitation in a culturally responsive environment. All clients are encouraged to go to AA and NA off-site meetings along with on-site group therapy. A typical day starts off with a morning stroll, followed by a nutritious breakfast. After breakfast, work duties include cleaning the house followed by daily reading and sharing in small groups. Educational groups are reserved for the afternoon, and themes include relapse prevention, transactional analysis, smoking cessation, and anger management. “Higher Ground also offers a comprehensive program for Māori. The program is available to all residents, whatever their ethnicity. The Kaupapa Whānau Oranga program is grounded in a Wairua focused (spiritual) and Whānau driven (recovery family in action) approach to wellbeing.” Family is also an important part of the healing process, so Higher Ground offers family education courses and visits.
Higher Ground is located in the heart of Auckland. The large campus offers plenty of space and comfortable accommodations. Higher Ground is free of charge to those with WINZ benefits. Rehab is still available for those without benefits at a weekly cost of $185.00 dollars.
