About Georgia Strait Womens Clinic
After 15 years of helping men with mental health and addiction treatment, Georgia Strait Women's Clinic knows there is a large need for specialized services for women with mental health, addiction, and trauma issues. Even though the issues are the "same", how each gender deals with them is dramatically different, meaning the treatments and therapies need to be as well. Georgia Strait seeks to provide this specialized care with a non-12-Step, evidence-based approach.
Georgia Strait Women's Clinic believes that every client (woman, non-binary, transgendered) deserves to have a highly skilled, compassionate, and curious team of professionals to help them. In their unique set up, Georgia Strait offers the services of a large facility with the privacy and attention found in a smaller one. Many on Georgia Strait’s team have walked through addiction themselves, placing them in a unique position of unmatched empathy and expert clinical knowledge.
Georgia Strait caters to women who have experienced trauma. In their unique atmosphere of support and safety, women can work through past traumas and gain the tools they need to flourish. Cell phone and laptop use allow women to stay connected with employers, employees, and family. On-staff nursing and clinical detoxification keeps women safe and comfortable at all stages of their treatment.
Women have their own private, apartment-style suite to call home during treatment. Inside their rooms, women have a small kitchen, seating area, private bathroom, bedroom, and wireless internet. In Georgia Strait’s facility, women can enjoy their gym, yoga studio, group dining room and TV room, laundry facilities, and the quiet nature surrounding their centre.

The staff were kind, non-judgmental, and did everything they could to make my stay comfortable. Everything was well taken care of, from the accomidations, to the food, to the treatment itself. The team at Georgia Straight helped me to find my best self and move forward with my life.

I really liked the family environment and the personal care and love that went into the care. I really liked that the therapists worked collaboratively and could help you approach your issues from several different perspectives. The sense of community between the women was also huge for me. I felt that things that could be worked on were having consistency in the message of autonomy to the clients. For example when I had a noise complaint in my room since it was below the nurses station, it took several days to get me moved even though there was a vacancy at the time I asked. I felt a bit evaded and invalidated during the request which did exacerbate anxiety a bit. But in the end I was heard and it was resolved. I also felt that one nurse in particular was fairly disrespectful in many of her interactions not only with myself but with some of the other clients which was fairly triggering and disempowering. Also I felt that consistency of the "main therapist" who also conducted small group would have been more effective since there was a transition happening at the time I was there. But overall my experience was amazing and I feel like my treatment was successful. My anxiety is significantly reduced and my toolbox is full to navigate the challenges that will inevitably occur.

Very positive experience. Professional care givers, a variety of therapists and cutting edge techniques, small group of max 9 women, allows for personalized care. Really appreciated having my own suite to retire to after programming. Focus is on purpose and meaning rather than 12 step which was a better fit for me. I have been to two other treatment centres before and they to not compare to GSWC. An all women’s program allowed for a safe environment for group work and other activities.

The centre is amazing. I love that you get the comfort and privacy of your own suite after a day of programming. The workshops are great- all of them are unique and useful in their own ways. The staff doing the workshops are also great- most of them do individual sessions so it gives you the chance to connect with them and figure out if they're the right fit. All of the staff and nursing staff are wonderful too. The sense of community you get with other clients is also really great. Overall- my needs were met in a complete holistic

My 6 week stay at GSWC was life changing. I came into the program without any substance abuse issues, but I had mental health concerns that were affecting my life immensely. Unlike a lot of other treatment centers that focus heavily on treating the addiction, GSWC focused on finding meaning and purpose in life. They worked to treat the underlying cause for the unwanted addictions or behaviors in your life to be able to get to the root of the issue, instead of simply focusing on the symptoms of the issue. Everyone that I have encountered here, both staff and other clients, have made my time here incredibly healing. There is a lot of therapy and learning through workshops and individual counselling everyday but we also have scheduled outings and recreational time that creates a balanced schedule. I was able to relate to everyone that I met on some level and there is a high degree of trust and safety that I felt during my time here. A few more things to note that set GSWC apart from other treatment centers is that we are allowed to have our phones with us, it is women’s only and nothing is co-ed, as well as everyone has their own private suite, with a bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen and AC.Lastly, the weekly appointments with the medial doctor and psychiatrist were very valuable and I was able to stop the medications that I was on previously and start a different medication that aided in my recovery. I was very hesitant about the cost of GSWC, as well as being away from home, but with the quality of care that I received while I was there and the extensive after program resources, it has been well worth the time and money. The program was by no means easy but you absolutely get what you put into it and I was cared for with the utmost compassion and respect. I will always be grateful for my time spent in recovery and would recommend GSWC to anyone who is struggling with addiction and / or mental health concerns.

When I arrived, I was a shell of myself. I was broken and in need of repair and recovery from traumas and substance abuse. The focus was on compassionate support, non-judgment, self-love and care and connection with self and others during the process and beyond. I am so grateful to be walking out whole and strong. I am so grateful for the people I have met and the willingness of the group to be vulnerable and accepting with the utmost respect. Coming here has changed my life and the ripple effect will be forever as I am a better mom and person for having been here. Thank you to all of you.
